Pedestal card and methods for liquid sample control and assay

A device for liquid sample collection and liquid sample analysis, comprising:

• a base plate comprising a surface, wherein surface comprises at least one pedestal area in at least a portion of a sample image area and at least one recessed area, wherein at least a portion of the at least one pedestal area is adjacent to the at least one recessed area;
• a cover plate that is moveable relative to the base plate to form different configurations including an open configuration and a closed configuration, wherein the cover plate comprises a surface that opposes the surface of the base plate and covers at least a portion of the pedestal area and at least a portion of the sample image area when the cover plate and the base plate are in the closed configuration;
• a plurality of spacers attached to either the surface of the base plate or the surface of the cover plate, wherein the plurality of spacers are situated between the surface of the base plate and the surface of the cover plate in the closed configuration,
• wherein, in the closed configuration, the plurality of spacers regulate a gap between the surface of the pedestal area and the surface of the cover plate in the closed configuration,
• an exterior liquid sample contact area on an exterior location of the device, and
• the base plate and the cover plate define an interior cavity, wherein the interior cavity is in fluid communication with the exterior liquid sample contact area.
