Layered tri-metallic catalytic article and method of manufacturing the catalytic article

A tri-metallic layered catalytic article comprising:

• a) a first layer comprising palladium supported on at least one of an oxygen storage component and an alumina component, wherein in the first layer, the palladium includes a first portion and a second portion respectively supported on different supports;
• b) a second layer comprising platinum and rhodium, each supported on at least one of an oxygen storage component and a zirconia component, wherein in the second layer, the platinum and rhodium are respectively supported by different supports;
• and
• c) a substrate,
• wherein the weight ratio of palladium to platinum ranges from 1.0:0.4 to 1.0:2.0, and the weight ratio of palladium to platinum to rhodium is 1.0:0.7:0.1 to 1.0:1.3:0.3, and
• wherein the first layer is deposited on the substrate and the second layer is deposited on the first layer, the first layer and the second layer are formed by preparing and coating a first layer slurry and a second layer slurry, respectively, and
• wherein either palladium or platinum, or both are thermally or chemically fixed to a corresponding support prior to preparing the first layer slurry and the second layer slurry;
• and
• wherein the oxygen storage component of the first layer comprises ceria in an amount ranging from 20 wt. % to 50 wt. %, based on the total weight of the oxygen storage component, and the oxygen storage component of the second layer comprises ceria in an amount ranging from 5 wt. % to 15 wt. %, based on the total weight of the oxygen storage component.
