Abstract
The present invention relates to probiotic compositions and methods for improving animal health and animal production. The probiotic compositions include one, two, three, or more isolated strains of novel Bacillus strains which are capable of colonizing the gastrointestinal tract to improve the health of an animal. The probiotic compositions include a combination of at least one Bacillus amyloliquefaciens strain and a Bacillus subtilis strain.
Claims15
A feed additive or food ingredient comprising a probiotic composition comprising an effective dose of a combination of a first isolated live Bacillus amyloliquefaciens strain and a first isolated live Bacillus subtilis strain and a carrier suitable for animal administration, wherein said feed additive or said food ingredient reduces or inhibits the colonization of an animal by Clostridium perfringens upon administration to the animal in an effective amount as compared to a corresponding animal not administered the feed additive or the food ingredient;
- and
- wherein the first isolated Bacillus amyloliquefaciens strain comprises a nucleic acid sequence having at least 99% sequence identity with SEQ ID NO:
- 261;
- and
- wherein the first Bacillus subtilis strain comprises a nucleic acid sequence having at least 99% sequence identity with SEQ ID NO:
- 16;
- and
- wherein the carrier is an edible food grade material or an animal feed and wherein the effective dose ranges from 1×103 to 1×109 CFU/G of the combination.
