Abstract
A bacteria-responsive color-changing, core-shell nanofiber, comprising polyurethane (PU), a hemicyanine-based chromogenic probe localized in the core-shell nanofiber near the surface of the shell, polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP) dopant in the shell, the hemicyanine-based chromogenic probe further comprising a labile ester linkage that is enzymatically cleavable by bacterial lipase released from clinically relevant strains of bacteria including Pseudomonas aeruginosa and methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA).
Claims7
A bacteria-responsive nanofiber, comprising:
- a core-shell nanofiber structure that comprises polyurethane (PU) and a polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP) dopant in the shell, and a hemicyanine dye localized in the core-shell nanofiber at the surface of the shell,
- wherein said hemicyanine dye is bound to hexanoic acid and comprises a labile ester linkage that is enzymatically cleavable by bacterial lipase, and
- wherein said hemicyanine dye in said shell exhibits a color-change response to bacterial lipase and said color change is visible to the naked eye.
A bacteria-responsive color-changing nanofibrous nanofiberous membrane, said membrane comprising a plurality of core-shell nanofibers,
- wherein said core-shell nanofibers comprise polyurethane (PU) and a polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP) dopant in the shell in the range of PU:PVP 4:1 to PU:PVP 2:1, and a hemicyanine dye localized in the core-shell nanofiber at the surface of the shell,
- wherein said hemicyanine dye is bound to hexanoic acid, and
- wherein said hemicyanine dye in said shell exhibits a color-change response to bacterial lipase and said color change is visible to the naked eye.
