Abstract
The present invention discloses a method of enabling a better and more controlled drug release from an oral administered pill and/or an oral delivery device by using gravity adding weight/high density content to secure that the pill/device decent through the stomach fluids and come in close contact with stomach and/or intestine tissue as it dissolves/releases the drug enabling a better controlled absorption/transfer of the drug to the blood stream.
Claims25
A method of enhancing targeted absorption of a therapeutic composition from an orally administered pill or oral drug delivery device, comprising:
- incorporating a high-density ballast into a delivery region of the pill or device such that a center of mass is positioned to orient the delivery region toward gastric or intestinal tissue upon descent in gastric fluids;
- wherein the pill or device contains the therapeutic composition;
- wherein the orientation of the pill or device provides prolonged localized exposure of the therapeutic composition at a mucosal surface, thereby reducing proteolytic degradation and enhancing therapeutic uptake;
- and
- optionally providing a protective barrier outside the delivery region to shield non-delivery surfaces from gastric degradation.
