Abstract
Described are implants for placing in a body, tools for delivering the implants, and systems and methods for using implants and tools for placing in a body and more particularly to nasal implants, tools for delivering nasal implants, and systems and methods for using such implants and tools. A tool may include a hand-held implant delivery device that holds, moves, orients, inserts, or shapes an implant. An implant may be a biodegradable, longitudinal implant that may be oriented for implantation by an implant delivery device.
Claims20
A nasal implant delivery tool comprising:
- a handle including an implant loading chamber adapted to receive a nasal implant;
- a needle extending distally from the handle to a distal end, wherein the needle comprises a needle lumen having an opening at the distal end, wherein the distal end is sharp;
- an actuator configured to move the nasal implant along the needle lumen and toward the opening at the distal end of the needle, wherein at least one of the implant loading chamber or the needle comprises a non-circular cross-section that is configured to control an orientation of the nasal implant such that the nasal implant is automatically in a predetermined orientation relative to the handle when the nasal implant is at the opening of the needle lumen;
- and
- an implant orientation indicator, wherein the implant orientation indicator is configured to provide a visual indication of a plane formed by a first implant arm and a second implant arm of the nasal implant corresponding to the predetermined orientation of the nasal implant in the needle,
- wherein the implant orientation indicator includes a first indicator arm projecting from the handle in a first direction and a second indicator arm projecting from the handle in a second direction,
- wherein the first direction is opposite the second direction, and
- wherein the first indicator arm is directly opposite of the second indicator arm on the handle,
- wherein the implant loading chamber comprises a recess that is configured to allow the nasal implant to be inserted into the implant loading chamber through a lateral portion of the handle.
A nasal implant delivery tool comprising:

- a needle extending distally from the handle to a distal end, wherein the needle comprises a needle lumen having an opening at the distal end, wherein the distal end is sharp;
- an actuator configured to move the nasal implant along the needle lumen and toward the opening at the distal end of the needle, wherein the implant loading chamber comprises a non-circular cross-section that is configured to control an orientation of the nasal implant such that the nasal implant is automatically in a predetermined orientation relative to the handle when the nasal implant is at the opening of the needle lumen;
- and
- an implant orientation indicator, wherein the implant orientation indicator is configured to provide a visual indication of a plane formed by a first implant arm and a second implant arm of the nasal implant corresponding to the predetermined orientation of the nasal implant in the needle,
- wherein the implant orientation indicator includes a first indicator arm projecting from the handle in a first direction and a second indicator arm projecting from the handle in a second direction,
- wherein the first direction is opposite the second direction, and
- wherein the first indicator arm is directly opposite of the second indicator arm on the handle,
- wherein the implant loading chamber is configured to receive the nasal implant in the predetermined orientation.
