Phototherapy shield

A phototherapy device for an infant, the device comprising:

• a device body configured to be sized and shaped to extend around at least a portion of a torso of an infant, the device body sized to cover an area that consists of at least 50% less than an expected total body surface area of the infant,
• the device body comprising a shielding region surrounded by a non-shielding region,
• the device body including an upper fabric layer and a lower fabric layer, wherein the shielding region of the device body further includes a reflective foil layer sandwiched between the upper fabric layer and the lower fabric layer and defining the shielding region,
• the reflective foil layer configured to block phototherapy light and configured to shield a heart of the infant from the phototherapy light, the reflective foil layer consisting of a length of 6 centimeters to 8 centimeters and a width of 2 centimeters to 4 centimeters, and consisting of a smaller length and width than a length and width of the device body including the fabric layers, and
• the fabric layers configured to pass the phototherapy light without substantial attenuation;
• and
• a first fastener attached to a first end of the device body and configured to be releasably attached to a second end of the device body or to a second fastener attached to the second end of the device body, to secure the phototherapy device around the torso of the infant.
