Abstract
Apparatus, methods, and systems for hemorrhage control and pelvic stabilization are provided. The hemorrhage control plate includes a baseplate and a bulbous node extending outwardly. The bulbous node is positioned against a patient's body at a location where pressure is desired. The device is used in connection with a tourniquet to occlude blood flow at a hemorrhage site. The device is configured to attach to the tourniquet.
Claims23
A hemorrhage control system that is movable between a stowed configuration and a deployed configuration, the hemorrhage control system comprising:
- a pressure applicator configured for applying pressure to a location on a patient when the system is in the deployed configuration;
- a base portion displaced from said pressure applicator when the system is in the deployed configuration;
- and
- a support portion extending between said pressure applicator and said base portion when the system is in the deployed configuration,
- wherein said base portion comprises opposed first and second clip members,
- wherein opposed distal ends of said support portion are received by said first and second clip members, respectively, when the system is in the stowed configuration, and
- wherein said support portion is engaged with said base portion, but displaced from said first and second clip members, when the system is in the deployed configuration.
A method of using a hemorrhage control system to apply pressure to a location on a patient, the method comprising:
- moving the system from a stowed configuration to a deployed configuration;
- positioning a pressure applicator of the system against the location on the patient;
- biasing a base portion of the system towards the location on the patient, thereby generating pressure at the location on the patient;
- and
- utilizing a support portion of the system to inhibit movement of the base portion relative to the pressure applicator,
- wherein the support portion extends between the pressure applicator and the base portion when the system is in the deployed configuration,
- wherein the base portion comprises opposed first and second clip members,
- wherein opposed distal ends of the support portion are received by the first and second clip members, respectively, when the system is in the stowed configuration,
- wherein moving the system from the stowed configuration to the deployed configuration comprises:
- sliding the support portion away from the base portion so that the distal ends of the support portion are no longer received by the first and second clip members of the base portion;
- and
- engaging the support portion with the base portion such that the support portion is displaced from the first and second clip members.
A method of making a hemorrhage control system that is moveable between a stowed configuration and a deployed configuration, the method comprising:
- positioning a pressure applicator at a first location, the pressure applicator being configured to apply pressure to a location on a patient when the system is in the deployed configuration;
- positioning a base portion at a second location such that the base portion is displaced from the pressure applicator when the system is in the deployed configuration;
- extending a support portion between the pressure applicator and the base portion when the system is in the deployed configuration;
- and
- forming opposed first and second clip members on the base portion,
- wherein opposed distal ends of the support portion are configured to receive said first and second clip members, respectively, when the system is in the stowed configuration, and
- wherein the support portion is engaged with the base portion, but displaced from the first and second clip members, when the system is in the deployed configuration.
