Policy-enabled call hunting

One or more non-transitory computer readable storage media encoded with instructions that, when executed by a processor, cause the processor to perform operations, comprising:

• configuring a policy-enabled indicator in a call hunt policy, the policy-enabled indicator including a configurable field that specifies whether consultation of a routing policy server to be performed for routing an incoming call, such that a query to the routing policy server is transmitted when the policy-enabled indicator indicates that a hunt group is policy-enabled;
• obtaining, by a call agent, an incoming call directed to an enterprise entity;
• identifying, by the call agent and based on the incoming call, the hunt group including the call hunt policy, wherein the call hunt policy comprises a candidate list of enterprise endpoint devices to which to route the incoming call;
• determining, by the call agent, that the call hunt policy includes the policy-enabled indicator that is set to true to indicate that the call agent is to query the routing policy server to determine whether the incoming call is to be routed to the candidate list of enterprise endpoint devices, wherein the call hunt policy further comprises identifying information for the routing policy server;
• based on the policy-enabled indicator being set to true for the call hunt policy and the identifying information for the routing policy server included in the call hunt policy, transmitting, by the call agent to the routing policy server, a query regarding whether the incoming call is to be routed to the candidate list of enterprise endpoint devices, wherein the query includes an indication of the candidate list of enterprise endpoint devices, the routing policy server is to determine a plurality of status indicators associated with a plurality of enterprise employees corresponding to the enterprise endpoint devices, the plurality of status indicators indicating whether the plurality of enterprise employees are available to answer the incoming call;
• and
• obtaining, by the call agent from the routing policy server, a response including an updated list of enterprise endpoint devices to which to route the incoming call, wherein the updated list is different than the candidate list.

An apparatus comprising:

• at least one memory element for storing data;
• and
• at least one processor for executing instructions associated with the data, wherein executing the instructions causes the apparatus to perform operations for a call agent, comprising:
• configuring a policy-enabled indicator in a call hunt policy, the policy-enabled indicator including a configurable field that specifies whether consultation of a routing policy server to be performed for routing an incoming call, such that a query to the routing policy server is transmitted when the policy-enabled indicator indicates that a hunt group is policy-enabled;
• obtaining, by the call agent, an incoming call directed to an enterprise entity;
• identifying, by the call agent and based on the incoming call, the hunt group including the call hunt policy, wherein the call hunt policy comprises a candidate list of enterprise endpoint devices to which to route the incoming call;
• determining, by the call agent, that the call hunt policy includes the policy-enabled indicator that is set to true to indicate that the call agent is to query the routing policy server to determine whether the incoming call is to be routed to the candidate list of enterprise endpoint devices, wherein the call hunt policy further comprises identifying information for the routing policy server;
• based on the policy-enabled indicator being set to true for the call hunt policy and the identifying information for the routing policy server included in the call hunt policy, transmitting, by the call agent to the routing policy server, a query regarding whether the incoming call is to be routed to the candidate list of enterprise endpoint devices, wherein the query includes an indication of the candidate list of enterprise endpoint devices, the routing policy server is to determine a plurality of status indicators associated with a plurality of enterprise employees corresponding to the enterprise endpoint devices, the plurality of status indicators indicating whether the plurality of enterprise employees are available to answer the incoming call;
• and
• obtaining, by the call agent from the routing policy server, a response including an updated list of enterprise endpoint devices to which to route the incoming call, wherein the updated list is different than the candidate list.
