Abstract
A method for operating a lock. A wireless command is received from a trusted device in a proximity range of the lock to enable a proximity mode. The proximity range is selectable by a user of the trusted device via an application. The proximity mode is enabled, and while enabled, a command is received to activate or deactivate the lock. The lock is activated or deactivated in response to the received activating or deactivating command.
Claims3
A system for locking a closure, the system comprising:
- a lock adapted for mounting adjacent the closure, the lock being actuatable to shift between locked and unlocked positions, the lock comprising a processor that is configured via executable instructions to perform a method comprising:
- receiving a wireless command from a trusted device to enable a proximity mode;
- enabling the proximity mode;
- starting a proximity timeout timer;
- in response to expiration of the proximity timeout timer, disabling the proximity mode;
- while the proximity mode is enabled and the trusted device is within a proximity range of the lock, wirelessly receiving a command to shift the lock between the locked and unlocked positions or vice versa via an application, wherein the proximity range is selectable by a user of the trusted device via the application;
- in response to the wirelessly received command:
- shifting the lock between the locked and unlocked positions or vice versa;
- and
- restarting the proximity timeout timer;
- the system further comprising one or more trusted devices, each of the one or more trusted devices comprising:
- a processor;
- a non-transitory memory;
- and
- executable instructions stored in the memory for causing the trusted device to perform a method comprising:
- connecting wirelessly to the lock;
- sending the command to the lock wirelessly via the application to cause the lock to enable the proximity mode;
- when the proximity mode is enabled:
- determining whether the trusted device is within the proximity range;
- and
- sending the command to shift the lock between the locked and unlocked positions or vice versa;
- wherein, when the proximity mode is enabled, the trusted device sends the command to shift the lock between the locked and unlocked positions or vice versa only when the trusted device is within the proximity range.
