System and method for balancing containerized application offloading and burst transmission for thermal control

An information handling system executing a containerized application and burst transmission thermal balance system comprising:

• a hardware processor executing machine readable code instructions of a first containerized portion of a containerized software application on the information handling system;
• a network interface device with an antenna and radio configured to transceive data packets via a wireless link meeting a preset quality of service (QOS) requirement to an edge computing resource to execute a second containerized portion of the containerized software application for presentation on the information handling system to offload computing from the processor depending on a processor-associated chassis skin surface temperature and an antenna-associated chassis skin surface temperature;
• a first temperature sensor of a plurality of temperature sensors in the information handling system chassis to determine the processor-associated chassis skin surface temperature at a first location of an outer surface of the information handling system chassis associated with the hardware processor;
• a second temperature sensor of the plurality of temperature sensors in the information handling system chassis to determine the antenna-associated chassis skin surface temperature at a second location of an outer surface of the information handling system chassis associated with the antenna or the radio;
• the embedded controller executing code instructions of the containerized application and burst transmission thermal balance system to instruct a load balancing driver to offload the execution of the second containerized portion of the containerized software application to the edge computing resource via the antenna when the processor-associated chassis skin surface temperature measured at the first temperature sensor at the first location of the outer surface of the information handling system chassis associated with the hardware processor reaches a control point limit chassis skin surface temperature;
• and
• the embedded controller executing code instructions of the containerized application and burst transmission thermal balance system to instruct the load balancing driver to direct keeping the execution of the second containerized portion of the containerized software application to the processor onboard the information handling system from the edge computing resource when the antenna-associated chassis skin surface temperature measured at the second temperature sensor at the second location of the outer surface of the information handling system chassis associated with the antenna and radio reaches the control point limit chassis skin surface temperature.

A method of balancing execution of containerized software applications and burst transmission thermal increases in an information handling system comprising:

• executing a first containerized portion of containerized software application, via a hardware processor on the information handling system;
• transceiving data packets via a wireless link of a network interface device with an antenna and a radio meeting a preset quality of service (QOS) requirement to an edge computing resource for offloading computing from the hardware processor to execute a second containerized portion of the containerized software application for presentation on the information handling system depending on a processor-associated chassis skin surface temperature and an antenna-associated chassis skin surface temperature;
• determining, via an embedded controller, that the processor-associated chassis skin surface temperature of an outer surface of the information handling system chassis at a first chassis location meets a control point limit chassis skin surface temperature based on a first temperature measured at the first chassis location by a first temperature sensor of a plurality of temperature sensors in the information handling system chassis, where the first temperature sensor is associated with a hardware processor location within the information handling system chassis;
• offloading the execution of part of the second containerized portion of the containerized software application, via the network interface device, to the edge computing resource via the antenna, when the hardware processor is determined as a causal heat source for the processor-associated chassis skin surface temperature meeting the control point at the first chassis location;
• and
• determining when a second chassis location on the outer surface of the information handling system chassis causes the antenna-associated chassis skin surface temperature to meet the control point at the second chassis location from a second temperature measurement at a second temperature sensor associated with an antenna or radio location within the information handling system and shifting the execution of the second containerized portion of the containerized software application back onboard to the hardware processor on the information handling system.
