Construction site inspection documentation method and system

A method for localizing inspection data sets of a construction within a construction plan or model, the method comprising:

• moving an electronic inspection device at the construction while capturing multiple inspection data sets of at least part of the construction by opto-electronic inspection means of the electronic inspection device;
• automatically recording a movement trajectory of the electronic inspection device in an internal reference system of the electronic inspection device based on motion and/or location data gathered on board the electronic inspection device while moving;
• allocating respective captured inspection data sets to respective positions of the movement trajectory;
• automatically determining, by means of a first machine-learned algorithm, first attributes of the movement trajectory based on a shape and/or motion of sections of the movement trajectory;
• automatically extracting or providing second attributes from the construction plan or model, wherein the second attributes comprise geometric construction attributes of the construction plan or model;
• automatically determining correspondences between the first attributes and the second attributes;
• automatically determining and applying, based on the determined correspondences, a geometric transformation for aligning the movement trajectory with the construction plan or model, thereby changing the movement trajectory from the internal reference system of the electronic inspection device into a coordinate system of the construction plan or model;
• and
• automatically allocating the inspection data sets to positions within the construction plan or model based on the changed movement trajectory.
