Abstract
Change detection and updates using probabilistic data structures are described. In one or more examples, a change is detected to a dataset record that is used as a basis to generate a first sketch as a probabilistic data structure. A second sketch is generated as a probabilistic data structure based on the change to the dataset record. The first sketch is replaced with the second sketch as stored in a database, the database supporting a probabilistic result to a query operation.

A method comprising:
- detecting, by a processing device, a change to a dataset record that is used as a basis to generate a first sketch as a probabilistic data structure, the dataset record including confidential information associated with a membership identifier that is configured to identify a particular entity associated with the confidential information;
- generating, by the processing device, a second sketch as a probabilistic data structure based on the change to the dataset record, the second sketch configured such that direct identification of the confidential information as associated with the membership identifier of the particular entity is not supported;
- replacing, by the processing device, the first sketch with the second sketch as stored in a database, the database supporting a probabilistic result to a query operation;
- and
- forming, by the processing device, a mapping of the confidential information included in the dataset record to the second sketch, the second sketch is configured to be stored independent of the confidential information.

- a computer-readable storage medium storing instruction that, responsive to execution by the processing device, causes the processing device to perform operations including:
- detecting a change to a dataset record that is used as a basis to generate a first sketch as a probabilistic data structure, the dataset record including an identity key, a respective attribute, and confidential information associated with a membership identifier that is configured to identify a particular entity associated with the confidential information;
- generating a second sketch as a probabilistic data structure based on the change to the dataset record, the second sketch configured such that direct identification of the confidential information as associated with the membership identifier of the particular entity is not supported;
- and
- replacing the first sketch with the second sketch as stored in a database, the database supporting a probabilistic result to a query operation;
- forming a query for processing by the database;
- receiving a probabilistic result to the query from the database;
- and
- resolving a sketch, as included in the probabilistic result, to the confidential information based on a mapping, the resolved sketch based at least in part on the second sketch.
