Construction of database schema models for database systems and REST API's

A computer system for constructing a database schema model upon input of a user, said computer system comprising a processor, non-volatile memory, program code present on said non-volatile memory for execution on said processor, a graphical interface, wherein a computer is configured to carry out steps of:

• (a) providing a set of collections and optionally one or more relationships linking at least two collections of said set of collection, each collection of said set of collections being associated with a schema definition displayed by a respective single entity box on an entity relationship diagram on a graphical interface on said computer, and each collection comprising at least one object and/or one field;
• (b) editing one or more collections of said set of collections by means of said graphical user interface, each collection of the one or more collections associated with the schema definition displayed by the single entity box on the entity relationship diagram on the graphical interface on said computer and comprising the at least one object and/or one field;
• (c) automatically generating by means of said computer said schema model for a database or Application Programming Interface;
• wherein at least one collection of said set of collections comprises a nested object comprising lower level nodes, each lower level node of said lower level nodes being displayed on said graphical user interface in the single entity box of the collection that comprises said nested object, wherein lower level nodes fields belonging to the nested object are displayed indented, said indentation being defined within the respective single entity box in the entity-relationship diagram on the graphical interface on said computer;
• wherein the at least one collection being displayed by the single entity box that comprises the nested object is associated with a single JavaScript Object Notation (JSON) document or Binary JSON (BSON) document;
• wherein said database schema model is formatted according to any format or combination of formats selected from:
• JavaScript Object Notation (JSON) Schema, Binary JSON (BSON), YAML Ain′t Markup Language (YAML), Mongoose, RESTful API Modeling Language (RAML), Swagger, Apache, AVRO, Parquet;
• and
• wherein a sequence among said fields in the nested object is identical to a sequence of corresponding fields in the single JSON document or Binary JSON document.
