Dynamic resource scaling for large-scale backups

An apparatus, comprising:

• one or more processors;
• memory coupled with the one or more processors;
• and
• instructions stored in the memory and executable by the one or more processors to cause the apparatus to:
• identify a time window for generation of a backup instance of a plurality of user accounts associated with an application;
• calculate respective runtime durations associated with generation of the backup instance for the plurality of user accounts;
• determine, for the plurality of user accounts, respective values of a semaphore parameter based at least in part on the respective runtime durations and the time window, wherein the semaphore parameter corresponds to a threshold quantity of backup processes to be performed in parallel as part of the generation of the backup instance;
• and
• generate, during the time window, the backup instance of the plurality of user accounts based at least in part on processing the plurality of user accounts in accordance with the respective values of the semaphore parameter.

A non-transitory computer-readable medium storing code for data management, the code comprising instructions executable by one or more processors to:

• identify a time window for generation of a backup instance of a plurality of user accounts associated with an application;
• calculate respective runtime durations associated with generation of the backup instance for the plurality of user accounts;
• determine, for the plurality of user accounts, respective values of a semaphore parameter based at least in part on the respective runtime durations and the time window, wherein the semaphore parameter corresponds to a threshold quantity of backup processes to be performed in parallel as part of the generation of the backup instance;
• and
• generate, during the time window, the backup instance of the plurality of user accounts based at least in part on processing the plurality of user accounts in accordance with the respective values of the semaphore parameter.
