A security system that can monitor activity along a perimeter, border, or other spaces comprising small form-factor packaging, battery-operated power, and low-cost sensor nodes. In an embodiment, sensor nodes are comprised of a microprocessor, PCB, and a plurality of sensors such as PIR, vibration, and accelerometers. The sensor nodes may be deployed by various vehicles and/or in various configurations, however, generally aerially and spaced in relative proximity to each other, respectively. In an exemplary mode, for borders (and larger perimeters), a secondary type of communications node may be used which would provide both longer distance communications (using secondary communications protocol), as well as greater processing power and memory storage, to augment the cumulative distributed capabilities of a mesh or grid system. This mesh system may be connected to a low-data central management system which may be managed only by smart devices such as mobile phones or laptops.
