Supercharger

A supercharger having a vertical operating orientation, the supercharger, comprising:

• a rotor housing defining a pair of cylindrical chambers;
• a driving shaft bearing to support a driving rotor shaft for rotation in the rotor housing;
• a driven shaft bearing to support a driven rotor shaft for rotation in the rotor housing;
• an oil sump housing to enclose a timing gear end of the rotor housing, wherein the oil sump housing is open to the driving shaft bearing, the driven shaft bearing, a driving timing gear and a driven timing gear;
• a driving shaft seal disposed directly between the rotor housing and the driving rotor shaft;
• a driven shaft seal disposed directly between the rotor housing and the driven rotor shaft;
• a first conduit extending from a first port to a first chamber extending between the driving shaft bearing and the driving shaft seal, the first conduit being entirely defined by the rotor housing, the first chamber being defined as a first annular cavity bounded by the first conduit, the driving rotor shaft, the driving shaft bearing, and the driving shaft seal;
• a second conduit extending from a second port to a second chamber extending between the driven shaft bearing and the driven shaft seal, the second conduit being entirely defined by the rotor housing, the second chamber being defined as a second annular cavity bounded by the second conduit, the driven rotor shaft, the driven shaft bearing, and the driven shaft seal;
• wherein, when the first port is connected to a pressurized oil flow, the first conduit supplies oil to both of the driving shaft bearing and the driving shaft seal;
• wherein oil flows through the driving and driven shaft bearings to the oil sump, wherein a return conduit returns oil within the oil sump housing to a pressurized fluid source;
• and
• wherein the oil pools in a closed container and a top surface of the oil is spaced below the driving timing gear and the driven timing gear when the driving rotor shaft is in the vertical operating orientation, and wherein the oil sump housing is beneath the driving rotor shaft.
