Abstract
A method of deploying plugging devices into a subterranean well can include conveying a bottom hole assembly into the well, the bottom hole assembly including a plug deployment tool, and actuating the plug deployment tool, thereby gradually dispensing the plugging devices from an interior of the plug deployment tool into the well. The plugging devices may be dispensed from the plug deployment tool all at once, or in discrete intervals.
Claims16
A method of deploying plugging devices into a subterranean well, the method comprising:
- conveying a bottom hole assembly into the well, the bottom hole assembly comprising a plug deployment tool, in which the plug deployment tool comprises a magazine containing multiple plugging devices;
- and
- actuating the plug deployment tool, thereby pushing the magazine outward from the plug deployment tool in a controlled manner to a fully extended position and gradually dispensing the plugging devices from an interior of the plug deployment tool into the well, wherein the magazine remains attached to the plug deployment tool in the fully extended position.
A plug deployment tool for use in a subterranean well, the plug deployment tool comprising:
- an outer housing;
- a magazine contained in the outer housing, in which the magazine contains multiple plugging devices;
- a power charge;
- and
- a piston configured to displace the magazine out of the outer housing to a fully extended position in a controlled manner in response to ignition of the power charge, whereby the plugging devices are gradually dispensed into the well, wherein the magazine remains attached to the plug deployment tool in the fully extended position.
