Abstract
Provided herein are fermentation compositions and methods for improved production of vanillin and/or glucovanillin. The compositions and methods described herein provide efficient routes for the production of vanillin and/or glucovanillin and any compound that can be synthesized or biosynthesized from either or both.
Claims14
A fermentation composition comprising:
- (a) one or more genetically modified yeast cells capable of producing vanillin or glucovanillin, the one or more genetically modified yeast cells comprising:
- (i) deletion of HFD1 gene;
- and
- (ii) one or more heterologous genes and/or overexpression of one or more genes selected from 3-dehydroquinate synthase (AroB), 3-dehydroquinate dehydratase (AroD), phospho-2-dehydro-3-deoxyheptonate aldolase (AroF), 3-dehydroshikimate dehydratase (AroZ), an O-methyl transferase (OMT) gene, a phosphopantetheinyl transferase (PPTASE) gene, an aromatic carboxylic acid reductase (ACAR) gene, eugenol alcohol oxidase (EAO) gene, and a UDP-glycosyltransferase (UGT) gene;
- and
- (b) about 24 to about 50 mg/L p-aminobenzoic acid.
