The present invention provides a process for the preparation of a compound of Formula (II): wherein the process comprises: (i) reacting a compound of Formula (I) with pyridine and 2-acetyloxypropanoyl chloride (APC) to give a compound of Formula (II), wherein the compound of Formula (I) has the following structure:

A process of preparing a compound of
- wherein the process comprises:
- (i) contacting 2-acetyloxypropanoyl chloride (APC) with a mixture comprising a compound of Formula (I) in a solvent system comprising pyridine, to generate a compound of Formula (II), wherein the compound of Formula (I) has the following structure:
- (ii) reacting the compound of Formula (II) with a hydrolysis agent to give a compound of Formula (III), wherein the compound of Formula (II) has the following structure:
- wherein the hydrolysis is maintained at a pH within about 12.0 to about 14.0 and wherein the amidation and hydrolysis are carried out in one vessel without isolation of the amidation product.
