Abstract
The present disclosure relates to formulations for cementitious materials and/or mortar prepared with minimal components. The present disclosure relates to formulations for cementitious materials and/or mortar that are low carbon dioxide (CO2) emitting formulations having tailorable rheology, controllable set times, and that can be prepared with pozzolanic materials. The present disclosure relates to formulations solidified with a silicate solution to form a hardened material.
Claims20
A system of components for preparing a cementitious material, said system comprising
- an activator solution comprising an alkali metal silicate selected from the group consisting of sodium silicate, potassium silicate, lithium silicate, cesium silicate, and amorphous silica particles of 5-50 nm in diameter, wherein the alkali metal silicate is present in an amount of about 25 wt % to about 70 wt % relative to the total system components;
- a pozzolanic material;
- and
- an inert, fine aggregate, wherein said system components are devoid of calcined lime and calcium sulfoaluminate;
- wherein the pozzolanic material is Class C Fly Ash, metakaolin, nepheline syenite, or any combination thereof;
- and
- wherein the cementitious material exhibits from about 0 to about 5% change in a height associated with slump after about 30 minutes.
A cementitious mortar composition formed by a process comprising:
- contacting an alkali metal silicate with an inert, fine aggregate, a viscosity modifying agent, and a pozzolanic material to provide a pozzolanic composition formulation,
- wherein the alkali metal silicate is selected from the group consisting of sodium silicate, potassium silicate, lithium silicate, cesium silicate, and amorphous silica particles,
- wherein the alkali metal silicate is present in an amount of about 25 wt % to about 70 wt % relative to the total composition,
- wherein said cementitious mortar composition is devoid of calcined lime and calcium sulfoaluminate,
- wherein the pozzolanic material is Class C Fly Ash, metakaolin, nepheline syenite, or any combination thereof, and
- wherein the cementitious mortar composition exhibits from about 0 to about 5% change in a height associated with slump after about 30 minutes.
A system for preparing a cementitious material, said system comprising:
- an activator solution comprising an alkali metal silicate present in an amount of about 25 wt % to about 70 wt % relative to the total system components;
- a pozzolanic material;
- an inert, fine aggregate, wherein said system components are devoid of calcined lime and calcium sulfoaluminate;
- wherein the pozzolanic material is Class C Fly Ash, metakaolin, nepheline syenite, or any combination thereof;
- and
- wherein the cementitious material exhibits from about 0 to about 5% change in a height associated with slump after about 30 minutes.
