Automobile interior with enhanced acoustics and thermal resistance and methods for making same

An automobile interior with enhanced acoustics and thermal resistance, comprising:

• a damping material directly coupled to a surface of a speaker compartment of an automobile;
• and
• a sound-absorbing material coupled to the damping material;
• wherein the sound-absorbing material comprises an absorptive surface comprising a first material and a backing comprising a second material, and wherein the absorptive surface faces towards a rear side of an automobile speaker positioned inside the speaker compartment to block sound waves emitted from the rear side of the automobile speaker from escaping the speaker compartment and entering into a main cabin of the automobile, thereby mitigating echo and back wave frequency cancellation in the main cabin.

A method of enhancing acoustics in an automobile interior, comprising:

• removing a first cover from a damping material to expose a first adhesive surface;
• and
• coupling the first adhesive surface directly to a surface of a speaker compartment of an automobile;
• removing a second cover from a polyethylene backing of a sound-absorbing material to expose a second adhesive surface;
• and
• coupling the second adhesive surface to the damping material, wherein an absorptive surface of the sound-absorbing material is adjacent to a rear side of an automobile speaker and absorbs sound waves emitted from the rear side of the automobile speaker, and wherein the combination of damping material and sound-absorbing material blocks the sound waves from transmitting into a main cabin of the automobile interior, thereby attenuating rear speaker sound at its source location and mitigating echo and back wave frequency cancellation in the main cabin.
