Electric delivery vehicle with charger

An energy storage system (“ESS”) for an electric delivery vehicle, the ESS comprising:

• a battery assembly comprising a plurality of batteries;
• a power distribution unit electrically coupled to the battery assembly, the power distribution unit comprising a first port electrically coupled to the battery assembly;
• a patch cable configured to be electrically coupled to the power distribution unit, the patch cable comprising:
• a first plug configured to engage the first port to electrically couple the patch cable to the battery assembly, the first plug positioned on a first end of the patch cable;
• and
• a second port positioned on a second end of the patch cable, the second port electrically coupled to the first port;
• and
• a charger assembly configured to be electrically coupled to the power distribution unit, the charger assembly comprising:
• a second plug configured to engage (i) the first port to electrically couple the charger assembly to the power distribution unit and (ii) the second port to electrically couple the charger assembly to the patch cable;
• and
• a third port configured to receive an external connector configured to supply power to the battery assembly.

A method of charging an electric delivery vehicle, the method comprising:

• determining, based on a location of the electric delivery vehicle, a position of an external connector relative to the electric delivery vehicle, the external connector configured to engage a charger of the electric delivery vehicle to supply power to a battery of the electric delivery vehicle, wherein the electric delivery vehicle comprises a patch cable configured to selectively electrically couple the charger to the battery;
• responsive to determining that the external connector is positioned proximate a forward section of the electric delivery vehicle, placing the charger and the patch cable in a first configuration to electrically couple the charger to the battery without electrically coupling the charger to the battery through the patch cable;
• and
• responsive to determining that the external connector is positioned proximate a rearward section of the electric delivery vehicle positioned rearward of the forward section of the electric delivery vehicle, placing the charger and the patch cable in a second configuration to electrically couple the charger to the battery through the patch cable.
