Abstract
A shaping composition for controlling deformation of a green body object can include from about 10 wt % to about 80 wt % liquid vehicle, and from about 10 wt % to about 90 wt % metal particulates. The metal particulates can include from about 35 wt % to about 90 wt % high melting point metal particles, from about 10 wt % to about 65 wt % aluminum alloy particles, and from about 0.1 wt % to about 10 wt % metal complex selected from an inorganic metal salt, an organic metal salt, or a metal oxide. The metal of the metal complex can include copper, iron, aluminum, chromium, titanium, cobalt, silver, gold, nickel, tin, or zinc.
Claims10
A three-dimensional printing kit, comprising:
- a stainless steel build material comprising from about 80 wt % to 100 wt % of stainless steel build particles having a D50 particle size distribution value of from about 1 μm to about 150 μm;
- a binding agent including a build binder to apply to stainless steel build material layers to form a green body object;
- and
- a shaping composition to apply to a surface of the green body object and to control green body object deformation, the shaping composition including:
- from about 10 wt % to about 80 wt % of a liquid vehicle;
- and
- from about 20 wt % to about 90 wt % of metal particulates, the metal particulates including from about 35 wt % to 70 wt % of high melting point metal particles and from 28 wt % to 35 wt % of aluminum alloy particles, wherein the metal particulates are interactive with a surface of the green body object such that the green body object retains its shape within an intermediate temperature range where the build binder does not enable retention of the green body object shape prior to the stainless steel build particles becoming heat-fused.
A method of controlling green body object deformation, the method comprising:
- forming a green body object by:
- iteratively applying individual build material layers of a stainless steel build material comprising from about 80 wt % to 100 wt % of stainless steel build particles having a D50 particle size distribution value of from about 1 μm to about 150 μm;
- and
- based on the three-dimensional object model, selectively applying a binding agent to the individual build material layers to define individually patterned layers that are built up and bound together to form the green body object, wherein the binding agent includes a build binder;
- applying a coating of a shaping composition to a surface of a green body object to control green body object deformation, wherein the green body object includes the stainless steel build particles bound together with the build binder, and wherein the shaping composition includes:
- from about 10 wt % to about 80 wt % of a liquid vehicle;
- and
- from about 20 wt % to about 90 wt % of metal particulates, the metal particulates including from about 35 wt % to 70 wt % of high melting point metal particles and from 28 wt % to 35 wt % of aluminum alloy particles;
- ramping-up a temperature applied to the green body object though an intermediate temperature range where the high melting point metal particles interact with the stainless steel build particles of the green body object such that the green body object retains its shape within the intermediate temperature range where the build binder does not enable retention of the green body object shape prior to becoming heat-fused;
- and
- heat-fusing the green body object at a fusing temperature that is above the intermediate temperature range to form a fused metal object.
