Abstract
Golf club heads with improved aerodynamic properties. The golf club head may include a striking face, a sole, a crown, and a plurality of vortex generators positioned in an aft half of the sole or an aft half of the crown. The vortex generators may be positioned on an inlay that is received by a recess of the crown or the sole. The inlay may be manufactured separately from the remainder of the club head body, such as the crown and the sole.
Claims18
A metal-wood type golf club head having improved aerodynamic properties, the golf club head comprising:
- a toe;
- a heel;
- a striking face;
- a sole;
- a crown;
- and
- a plurality of vortex generators positioned in at least one of:
- an aft half of the sole or an aft half of the crown,
- wherein frontmost portions of the plurality of vortex generators are positioned along an arc having a shape corresponding to a shape of an outer perimeter of a rear portion of the golf club head in a top-down view,
- wherein a first subset of the plurality of vortex generators are alternatingly arranged with a second subset of the plurality of vortex generators along the arc, each of the first subset of the plurality of vortex generators extending, from the frontmost portion to a corresponding rearmost portion, along a corresponding extension direction partly rearward from the striking face and partly toeward toward the toe, and each of the second subset of plurality of the plurality of vortex generators extending, from the frontmost portion to a corresponding rearmost portion, along a corresponding extension direction partly rearward from the striking face and partly heelward toward the heel, and
- wherein at least one of the vortex generators comprises:
- a top surface;
- a bottom surface;
- a curved leading edge extending from the frontmost portion to the top surface;
- and
- a flat rear edge extending between the top surface to the bottom surface.
