Abstract
A plurality of structural layers having different properties are nested together to form the medical balloon. Certain embodiments include at least one layer comprising a fiber-reinforced polymer. The layers of the balloons can slide relative to one another in use. A structural layer may comprise metal reinforcing fibers suspended in a polymer matrix.
Claims20
A medical balloon comprising:
- a fluid impermeable inner structural layer comprising a polymeric material, wherein the inner structural layer is free from reinforcing fibers;
- a fluid impermeable outer structural layer disposed radially outward of the inner structural layer, the outer structural layer comprising reinforcing fibers suspended in a polymeric matrix,
- wherein the outer structural layer is capable of independently operating as a balloon having a rated burst pressure of at least 30 atm.
