Abstract
Disclosed are techniques, devices and systems that modify an insulin delivery schedule based on how sensitive a diabetic user may to fluctuations in their total daily insulin or fluctuations in their blood glucose measurement values. As a control algorithm calculates how to adapt the calculation of the user's total daily insulin, a rate of adaptivity function may be used in the calculation. The rate of adaptivity may depend on a number of factors and the disclosed techniques, devices and systems enable calculation of the rate of adaptivity to provide effective implementation or modification of a diabetic treatment plan.
Claims19
A wearable drug delivery device system, comprising:
- a processor operable to execute programming instructions;
- communication circuitry coupled to the processor and operable to receive data signals and transmit control signals, and
- a memory coupled to the processor and operable to store programming instructions and data related to an amount of insulin expelled by a wearable drug delivery device, wherein the processor is operable to:
- obtain an insulin delivery data set, wherein the insulin delivery data set includes delivery data corresponding to discrete amounts of insulin delivered over a current period of time;
- calculate a total amount of insulin delivered over the current period of time using the delivery data in the insulin delivery data set;
- determine a value of a ratio using a percentage of a previous total amount of insulin delivered during a previous period of time over a standard deviation of the total amount of insulin delivered over the current period of time;
- establish an adaptivity rate factor that is a value between a maximum value and a minimum adaptivity parameter value;
- set an adaptivity modification coefficient using the established adaptivity rate factor;
- generate a rate of adaptivity using the adaptivity modification coefficient;
- calculating a total daily insulin setting using the rate of adaptivity;
- and
- modifying an insulin delivery schedule based on the calculated total daily insulin setting.
A non-transitory computer readable medium embodied with programming instructions that when executed by a processor cause the processor to:
- obtain a blood glucose data set, wherein the blood glucose data set includes blood glucose measurement values measured over a current period of time;
- calculate a standard deviation of the blood glucose measurement values in the blood glucose data set;
- determine a value of a ratio using a preset constant value over the standard deviation of the total amount of insulin delivered over the current period of time;
- establish a maximum value between the value of the ratio and a minimum adaptivity parameter;
- determine an adaptivity modification coefficient using the maximum value and an adaptivity rate factor, wherein a minimum value of either the maximum value or the adaptivity rate factor is determined to be the adaptivity modification coefficient;
- generate a rate of adaptivity using the adaptivity modification coefficient;
- calculate a total daily insulin setting using the rate of adaptivity;
- and
- modify an insulin delivery schedule based on the calculated total daily insulin setting.
A wearable drug delivery device system, comprising:
- a processor operable to execute programming instructions;

- obtain a blood glucose data set, wherein the blood glucose data set includes blood glucose measurement values measured over a current period of time;
- calculate a standard deviation of the blood glucose measurement values in the blood glucose data set;
- determine a value of a ratio using a preset constant value over the standard deviation of the total amount of insulin delivered over the current period of time;
- establish a maximum value between the value of the ratio and a minimum adaptivity parameter;
- determine an adaptivity modification coefficient using the maximum value and an adaptivity rate factor, wherein a minimum value of either the maximum value or the adaptivity rate factor is determined to be the adaptivity modification coefficient;
- generate a rate of adaptivity using the adaptivity modification coefficient;
- calculate a total daily insulin setting using the rate of adaptivity;
