Abstract
Intraocular lenses (IOLs) that improve lens stability by, for example, increasing anterior-posterior stiffness of the IOL, increasing anterior-posterior dimensions of the IOL and/or increasing contact area with the equator of the bag to resist movement of the IOL as the bag collapses over time. These IOLs may be non-modular (single component) or modular (multiple component). In modular embodiments, the IOL system may include intraocular base and optic components, which, when combined, form a modular IOL.

A device configured for insertion into an eye, the device comprising:
- a base including:
- an anterior portion having an anterior rim and an anterior opening, wherein the anterior rim includes a plurality of notches,
- a posterior portion having a posterior rim and a posterior opening, and
- an intermediate portion between the anterior and the posterior portions, wherein the intermediate portion is wider than the anterior and the posterior portions and protrudes from the anterior and the posterior portions, wherein the intermediate portion has an exterior that includes an anterior facing surface extending radially outward from the anterior portion and a posterior facing surface extending radially outward from the posterior portion, and wherein the intermediate portion has a recess therein,
- wherein the recess is formed by an anterior ledge, a posterior ledge, and a sidewall extending in an anterior-posterior direction, and wherein the recess extends continuously around a circumference of the base,
- wherein the posterior portion extends axially and circumferentially as a one piece continuous structure away from the intermediate portion to a proximalmost end of the posterior portion, and wherein a peripheral face of the posterior portion extends continuously around the posterior opening.
A device configured for insertion into an eye, the device comprising:
- a base including:
- a first portion including:
- a first wall,
- a first rim extending around an anterior side of the base, the first rim including a first opening at a first end of the first wall and a plurality of notches, and
- a first chamber adjacent to the first opening, wherein a width of the first chamber is greater than a width of the first opening,
- a second portion including a second rim extending around a posterior side of the base, the second rim including a second opening, and
- an intermediate portion extending between the first and the second portions, wherein the intermediate portion is wider than the first and the second portions, wherein the intermediate portion has an exterior that includes an anterior facing surface extending radially outward from the first portion and a posterior facing surface extending radially outward from the second portion, and wherein the intermediate portion has a recess therein adjacent to the first chamber,
- wherein the recess is formed by an anterior ledge, a posterior ledge, and a sidewall extending in an anterior-posterior direction, wherein the second portion extends axially and circumferentially as a one piece continuous structure away from the intermediate portion to a proximalmost end of the second portion, and wherein a peripheral face of the second portion extends continuously around the second opening.
A device configured for insertion into an eye, the device comprising:
- a base including:
- an anterior housing portion having an anterior rim and an anterior opening, wherein the anterior rim includes a plurality of notches that provide access to a probe;
- a posterior housing portion having a posterior rim and a posterior opening;
- an intermediate housing portion between the anterior and the posterior housing portions, the intermediate housing portion having an exterior that includes an anterior facing surface extending radially outward from the anterior housing portion and a posterior facing surface extending radially outward from the posterior housing portion, the intermediate housing portion having a recess, wherein the recess is formed by an anterior ledge, a posterior ledge, and a sidewall extending in an anterior-posterior direction, wherein the recess extends continuously around a circumference of the base, wherein the posterior housing portion extends axially and circumferentially as a one piece continuous structure away from the intermediate housing portion to a proximalmost end of the posterior housing portion, and wherein a peripheral face of the posterior rim extends continuously around the posterior opening;
- and
- a passage extending through the anterior housing portion, the posterior housing portion, and the intermediate housing portions;
- and
- a lens configured for receipt in the intermediate housing portion, the lens including:
- a central optic;
- and
- a pair of tabs protruding radially outwardly from the central optic, wherein the tabs are configured to engage one or more surfaces of the intermediate housing portion.
