Abstract
Described here are methods, systems, and devices, useful for minimally invasive surgical procedures. The methods may include introducing a grasper through an opening into an abdominal cavity, grasping a portion of a left lobe of a liver with the grasper, rotating the grasper towards a control element located outside the abdominal cavity by applying a magnetic field to the grasper across a body wall, and moving the control element over a set of ribs such that the liver bends into a folded configuration.
Claims15
A method for performing a surgical procedure, comprising:
- introducing a grasper through an opening into an abdominal cavity;
- grasping a portion of a first lobe of a liver with the grasper;
- rotating the grasper towards a control element using a delivery device releasably coupled to the grasper, wherein the control element is located outside the abdominal cavity;
- placing the control element adjacent to a body wall to apply a magnetic field to the grasper across the body wall;
- and
- folding a first portion of the liver over a second portion of the liver by moving the control element over a set of ribs such that the first portion anteriorly overlaps the second portion as the control element is being moved.
A method for performing a surgical procedure, comprising:
- introducing a grasper through an opening into an abdominal cavity;
- grasping a portion of a first lobe of a liver with the grasper;
- rotating the grasper towards a control element using a delivery device releasably coupled to the grasper, wherein the control element is located outside the abdominal cavity;
- placing the control element adjacent to a body wall to apply a magnetic field to the grasper across the body wall;
- and
- moving the control element in a lateral direction with respect to a patient over a set of ribs such that the liver folds over itself as the control element is being moved.
