Abstract
The problem solved by the present invention is to provide a high-stearic acid sunflower line. This problem is solved by a sunflower seed comprising a sequence insertion mutation on the 3′ side from the TATA box and on the 5′ side from the start codon of a stearoyl-acyl carrier protein desaturase 17 (SAD17) gene.
Claims9
A sunflower seed comprising a nucleic acid sequence insertion of 400 to 800 nucleotide bases located between a TATA box and a start codon of a stearoyl-acyl carrier protein desaturase 17 (SAD17) gene, wherein the SAD17 gene comprises the nucleotide sequence of SEQ ID NO:
- 2,
- wherein the TATA box is located at nucleotides 1-9 of SEQ ID NO:
- 2 and the start codon is located at nucleotides 122-124 of SEQ ID NO:
- 2,
- wherein the sunflower seed has a higher stearic acid content as compared to a sunflower seed without the nucleic acid sequence insertion in the SAD17 gene,
- wherein the nucleic acid sequence insertion is introduced into a high-oleic acid sunflower line having an oleic acid content of 75 to 90%, and
- wherein the nucleic acid sequence insertion comprises a nucleotide sequence having at least 80% sequence identity to the nucleotide sequence of SEQ ID NO:
- 1.
