Abstract
Aspects described herein relate to transmitting a first random access message in a random access procedure based on whether beam refinement is configured. In an aspect, it can be determined whether a base station uses beam refinement for receiving a first random access message in a two-step random access procedure. Based on whether the base station uses beam refinement, one or more parameters for transmitting the first random access message can be determined, and the first random access message can be transmitted to the base station and based on the one or more parameters.
Claims14
An apparatus for wireless communication, comprising:
- a transceiver;
- a memory;
- and
- one or more processors coupled with the memory and the transceiver, the memory storing instructions executable by the one or more processors to cause the apparatus to:
- receive, from a network node, a configuration indicating whether the network node uses beam refinement in a two-step random access procedure to receive, from a user equipment, multiple repetitions of a first random access message using a different receive beam for each of the multiple repetitions;
- select, based on the configuration indicating that the network node uses the beam refinement, one or more parameters for transmitting a repetition of at least a portion of the first random access message in the two-step random access procedure, wherein the first random access message is a MsgA in the two-step random access procedure, wherein the one or more processors are configured to select the one or more parameters at least in part by changing, based on the configuration indicating that the network node uses the beam refinement, a mapping between a random access preamble of the first random access message and frequency or time resources for transmitting a payload of the first random access message;
- transmit, to the network node and based on the one or more parameters, the repetition of at least the portion of the first random access message as part of the two-step random access procedure;
- and
- transmit, based on whether the network node uses beam refinement and based on a received signal power of a synchronization signal block (SSB) received from the network node being less than a threshold, one or more additional repetitions of at least the portion of the first random access message.
A method for wireless communication, comprising:
- receiving, from a network node, a configuration indicating whether the network node uses beam refinement in a two-step random access procedure to receive, from a user equipment, multiple repetitions of a first random access message using a different receive beam for each of the multiple repetitions;
- selecting, based on the configuration indicating that the network node uses the beam refinement, one or more parameters for transmitting a repetition of at least a portion of the first random access message in the two-step random access procedure, wherein the first random access message is a MsgA in the two-step random access procedure, wherein selecting the one or more parameters includes changing, based on the configuration indicating that the network node uses the beam refinement, a mapping between a random access preamble of the first random access message and frequency or time resources for transmitting a payload of the first random access message;
- transmitting, to the network node and based on the one or more parameters, the repetition of at least the portion of the first random access message as part of the two-step random access procedure;
- and
- transmitting, based on whether the network node uses beam refinement and based on a received signal power of a synchronization signal block (SSB) received from the network node being less than a threshold, one or more additional repetitions of at least the portion of the first random access message.
