Abstract
The disclosed embodiments provide cryptographically secure International Mobile Equipment Identity (IMEI) numbers via a Device Composition Identifier Engine (DICE). In one embodiment, a method is disclosed comprising receiving, at a computing device, an IMEI number from a cellular network; generating, by the computing device, a digital certificate using the IMEI number, the digital certificate signed using a private key generated by a manufacturer of the computing device; and transmitting, by the computing device, the digital certificate to the cellular network when authenticating to the cellular network.
Claims17
A method comprising:
- receiving, at a mobile device, an International Mobile Equipment Identity (IMEI) number from a cellular network;
- generating, by a Device Identity Composition Engine (DICE) of the mobile device, a digital certificate using the IMEI number, the digital certificate signed using a private key generated by a manufacturer of the mobile device;
- transmitting, by the mobile device, the digital certificate to the cellular network when authenticating to the cellular network;
- and
- receiving a second IMEI number from the cellular network and generating a second digital certificate using the second IMEI number, the second digital certificate signed using the private key.
A non-transitory computer-readable storage medium for tangibly storing computer program instructions capable of being executed by a computer processor, the computer program instructions defining the steps of:
- receiving, at a mobile device, an International Mobile Equipment Identity (IMEI) number from a cellular network;
- generating, by a Device Identity Composition Engine (DICE) of the mobile device, a digital certificate using the IMEI number, the digital certificate signed using a private key generated by a manufacturer of the mobile device;
- transmitting, by the mobile device, the digital certificate to the cellular network when authenticating to the cellular network;
- and
- receiving a second IMEI number from the cellular network and generating a second digital certificate using the second IMEI number, the second digital certificate signed using the private key.
A device comprising:
- a processor;
- and
- a storage medium for tangibly storing thereon program logic causing the processor to perform operations of:
- receiving an International Mobile Equipment Identity (IMEI) number from a cellular network, the cellular network comprising a core network and a radio access network (RAN);
- generating, by a Device Identity Composition Engine (DICE), a digital certificate using the IMEI number, the digital certificate signed using a private key generated by a manufacturer of the device;
- transmitting the digital certificate to the cellular network via the RAN when authenticating to the cellular network;
- and
- receiving a second IMEI number from the cellular network and generating a second digital certificate using the second IMEI number, the second digital certificate signed using the private key.
