Home triggered primary authentication for inter-working networks

A wireless communications apparatus comprising:

• a memory storing a plurality of instructions;
• and
• a processor configured to execute the plurality of instructions, and upon execution of the plurality of instructions, is configured to cause a Unified Data Management (UDM) to:
• receive, from an access and mobility management function (AMF), a message;
• after receipt of the message, determine whether there is an Authentication Server Function (AUSF) instance identification (ID) stored in the UDM;
• after the determination:
• in response to the determination comprising a determination that there is no AUSF instance ID stored in the UDM, respond to the AMF by indicating to initiate reauthentication;
• and
• in response to the determination comprising a determination that the AUSF instance ID is stored in the UDM, continue registration.

A wireless communication method comprising:

• transmitting, by an access and mobility management function (AMF), a message to a Unified Data Management (UDM);
• in response to a determination by the UDM that an Authentic Server Function, AUSF, instance identification, ID, is stored in the UDM, continuing, by the AMF, registration;
• and
• in response to a determination by the UDM that there is no AUSF instance ID stored in the UDM, receiving, by the AMF from the UDM, a response to initiate reauthentication.
