Open ear system using artificial intelligence (AI) driven audio signal processing

An apparatus, comprising:

• a front face capable of holding a pair of eyewear lenses;
• a left eyewear stem and a right eyewear stem coupled to the front face, wherein each eyewear stem comprises:
• a microphone array;
• a neural network trained to extract a desired signal from ambient audio received from the microphone array by optimizing changes in noise fields, self-voice speech levels, and desired speech/audio levels, wherein the neural network processes ambient audio exclusively from the microphone array in its respective eyewear stem independently of the other neural network;
• a compression/expansion module that applies frequency-dependent gain adjustments to compensate for a user's hearing loss;
• and
• circuitry that receives the desired signal from the neural network with the frequency-dependent gains to acoustically render the desired signal proximate to an ear of a user without anything physical being placed within an entrance to an ear canal.

An apparatus comprising:

• a left eyewear stem, comprising:
• a first microphone array;
• a first processor system that receives first auditory content from the first microphone array and processes the first auditory content through a first neural network trained to extract a first desired signal from the first auditory content, and wherein the first processor system applies frequency-dependent gains to the first desired signal to compensate for a user's hearing loss profile;
• a first battery;
• and
• first circuitry that receives the first desired signal modified with the frequency-dependent gains to acoustically render the first desired modified signal proximate to the left ear of the user without anything physical being placed within the entrance to left ear canal;
• a right eyewear stem, comprising:
• a second microphone array;
• a second processor system that receives second auditory content from the second microphone array and processes the second auditory content through a second neural network trained to extract a second desired signal from the second auditory content, wherein the first neural network and second neural network operate independently of each other, and wherein the second processor system applies frequency-dependent gains to the second desired signal to compensate for a user's hearing loss profile;
• a second battery;
• and
• second circuitry that receives the second desired signal modified with the frequency-dependent gains to acoustically render the second desired modified signal proximate to the right ear of the user without anything physical being placed within the entrance to right ear canal;
• a front face capable of holding a pair of eyewear lenses and coupled to the left eyewear stem and right eyewear stem, wherein the front face lacks an electrical conductor connecting the right eyewear stem and left eyewear stem, wherein the first processor in the left eyewear stem independently processes content from the first microphone array in the left eyewear stem, and the second processor in the right eyewear stem independently processes content from the second microphone array in the right eyewear stem;
• and
• a wireless link between the left eyewear stem and right eyewear stem that provides synchronization for at least one of:
• system volume;
• left/right balance;
• or
• playback of audio received from a connected audio source other than the microphone arrays.
