Systems and methods for editing a video recording in progress

A digital media recording system comprising:

• a mobile device including a recording component, a geolocation component, a storage, a user input interface, and a processor;
• a software application;
• the user input interface comprising controls adapted and configured to be activated by human user inputs to the user input interface, the controls including a save control and a lock geolocation control;
• the recording component being operative to capture media comprising at least one of live audio and live video;
• the geolocation component being adapted and configured to periodically receive geolocation transmissions, the mobile device being adapted and configured, when the geolocation transmissions are so received, to determine a geolocation of the mobile device from the geolocation transmissions, and when the geolocation of the mobile device is so determined, to update a stored geolocation value to represent the determined geolocation of the mobile device, and when the stored geolocation value is so updated, to update a stored live location text string based on the stored geolocation value;
• the storage comprising a non-volatile computer-readable medium;
• the processor being operatively connected to the recording component, the geolocation component, the storage, and the user input interface;
• the software application comprising computer readable software instructions stored in the storage, the processor being operative to read and execute the software instructions from the storage;
• the software application comprising instructions for the processor to:
• when the save control is activated, save media captured by the recording component by writing to the storage a digital media file containing the captured media, the digital media file including location metadata, the location metadata comprising the stored live location text string at the time of the activation of the save control;
• when the lock geolocation control is activated, to pause said updating the stored geolocation value by the mobile device.
