Optical tracking module chip for wireless optical communication terminal

A system comprising:

• an optical communication system including an optical assembly, the optical assembly including one or more lenses;
• and
• a plurality of optical tracking modules each including an integrated circuit, the integrated circuit for each respective optical tracking module including:
• an optical phased array (OPA) including a plurality of phase shifters;
• one or more processors configured to extract signal information of an incoming beam via the OPA;
• wherein each of the plurality of optical tracking modules is lensless apart from the OPA;
• and
• wherein the optical communication system and the plurality of optical tracking modules are in a network arrangement and the optical communication system is a node of the network arrangement.

A method of transmitting optical communication beams in a network arrangement, the method comprising:

• receiving, at a second tracking module, a first optical communication beam from a first tracking module, the receiving including:
• determining, by one or more processors in an integrated circuit, signal information of the first optical communication beam;
• and
• sending, by the one or more processors in the integrated circuit, a signal to adjust one or more phase shifters in the integrated circuit based on the determined signal information;
• and
• transmitting, using the one or more phase shifters and an optical phased array (OPA) of the second tracking module, a second optical communication beam.
