Abstract
An amplifier for a cable network includes circuitry configured to provide a diagnostic parameter. Exemplary parameter include one or more of: measurements of a frequency response, suckouts in the frequency domain, north upstream echo signal or power, north downstream signal or power, north upstream echo to downstream power ratio, north upstream echo to residual echo power ratio, downstream echo canceller coefficients, south downstream signal or power, upstream information, south downstream echo signal or power, south upstream signal or power, south downstream echo to upstream power ratio, south downstream echo to residual echo power ratio, upstream echo canceller coefficients, and north upstream signal or power.
Claims19
An amplifier for a cable network, the amplifier comprising:
- circuitry configured to provide a parameter to at least one device on the cable network;
- wherein the parameter is an echo cancelling signal to noise ratio measured using differences in echo canceller coefficients over a shorter time period and echo canceller coefficient drift measured by differences in the echo canceller coefficients over a longer time period.
A circuitry, comprising:
- a first port;
- a second port;
- and
- a first circuit configured to:
- amplify a first signal provided from the first port to the second port and a second signal provided from the second port to the first port;
- provide echo cancellation;
- and
- provide a parameter to diagnose performance of a cable network;
- wherein the parameter includes a signal to noise ratio that is measured based at least on one or more differences in one or more coefficients of a second circuit, the one or more coefficients configured to adjust at least one echo across the cable network, and the one or more differences determined over a first time period and a second time period that is larger than the first time period.
A method, comprising:
- providing a first signal from a downstream port to an upstream port using a first circuit, the first circuit comprising the downstream port and the upstream port, the upstream port being configured to be coupled to a first communication medium, the downstream port being configured to be coupled to a second communication medium;
- providing a second signal from the upstream port to the downstream port using the first circuit;
- performing echo cancellation using the first circuit;
- and
- sampling a parameter at a location between the downstream port and the upstream port to diagnose performance of a cable network;
