Connector for flexible circuitry electrical interface

A connector for interfacing a flexible circuitry device with an apparatus, the connector comprising:

• a housing comprising an upper housing portion and a lower housing portion, wherein the upper housing portion comprises a button region;
• a button configured to be actuated via the button region of the housing and configured to be movable between a retain position and a release position;
• one or more circuit boards, wherein
• at least one first circuit board of the one or more circuit boards comprises at least one first contact configured to interface with a corresponding at least one second contact of a connection portion of the flexible circuitry device, wherein
• the at least one first circuit board is disposed between the button and the lower housing portion, and
• at least one second circuit board of the one or more circuit boards comprises at least one third contact, each third contact supporting transfer of power, data, and/or stimulation signals between the flexible circuitry device and a cable;
• a plurality of retention features for frictionally retaining the connection portion of the flexible circuitry device against the at least one first contact, wherein the plurality of retention features comprises
• a lower retention plate, and
• an upper retention plate;
• and
• a cable connector in electrical communication with the at least one third contact, wherein the cable connector is configured to enable transfer of data and/or stimulation signals between the cable and the flexible circuitry device;
• wherein, when the button is in the retain position, the button creates a downward force on the upper retention plate toward the lower retention plate, the downward force being configured to cause a frictional retention force against the connection portion of the flexible circuitry device when the at least one second contact of the connection portion of the flexible circuitry device is communicatively aligned with the at least one first contact of one or more circuit boards of the at least one first circuit board;
• and
• wherein, when the button is in the release position, the upper retention plate is displaced in a direction of the upper housing portion, thereby creating an aperture configured to receive the connection portion of the flexible circuitry device.
