Abstract
Fucosylated α1-acid glycoprotein (fAGP) was found to be useful for the diagnosis of pancreatic cancer and malignant intraductal papillary mucinous neoplasm (IPMC), resulting in the finding of a new biomarker for pancreatic cancer or malignant intraductal papillary mucinous neoplasm (IPMC), in particular, a new biomarker useful for rapid diagnosis of malignant intraductal papillary mucinous neoplasm (IPMC) that increases the accuracy of malignant intraductal papillary mucinous neoplasm (IPMC) and aids conventional imaging diagnosis by making a suitable preoperative diagnosis of a benign neoplasm or a malignant neoplasm in intraductal papillary mucinous neoplasm (IPMN).
Claims4
A method for diagnosing and treating a patient having malignant intraductal papillary mucinous neoplasm (IPMC) in intraductal papillary mucinous neoplasm (IPMN), comprising:
- a step of collecting a specimen from a patient, wherein the specimen is a plasma or a serum;
- a step of measuring the amount of fucosyl residues of α1-acid glycoprotein (AGP) in the specimen, comprising:
- a step of desialylating AGP in the specimen;
- a step of measuring the amount of AGP in the specimen as μg/ml by a sandwich enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) using an anti-AGP antibody that is immobilized on a substrate, an enzyme-labeled anti-AGP antibody, and desialylated AGP preparations that are used as standards for quantifying AGP;
- a step of measuring the amount of fucosyl residues in the specimen as U/ml by an enzyme immunoassay (EIA) using an anti-AGP antibody that is immobilized on a substrate and whose sugar chain has been defucosylated, and a labeled lectin that binds a fucosyl residues in the desialylated AGP;
- and
- a step of normalizing the amount of the fucosyl residues in the specimen with the amount of desialylated AGP to obtain the amount of fucosyl residues of AGP in the specimen as U/μg;
- a step of diagnosing IPMC by identifying the amount of the fucosyl residues of AGP in the specimen as being greater than a reference value or as being greater than an amount of fucosyl residues of AGP in a specimen collected from a patient with a benign intraductal papillary mucinous neoplasm (IPMA);
- and
- a step of treating said patient by one or more selected from the group consisting of surgery, chemotherapy, radiation therapy, antibody therapy, and immunotherapy.
