Abstract
The present invention relates to methods for detecting the presence or absence of Parkinson's disease (PD).
Claims15
A method for treating Parkinson's disease (PD) in a subject, the method comprising:
- (a) providing a sebum sample from the subject;
- (b) determining the level of one or more biomarker compounds in the subject's sebum sample, wherein the one or more biomarker compounds are selected from the group consisting of cardiolipins, glycolipids and phosphatidylcholines;
- (c) comparing the level of the one or more biomarker compounds in the subject's sebum sample to a control sebum level of the one or more biomarker compounds;
- (d) identifying that one or more cardiolipins is reduced relative to its control level, one or more glycolipids is reduced relative to its control level, or one or more phosphatidylcholines is elevated relative to its control level, thereby detecting the presence of PD in the subject;
- and
- (e) administering a therapeutically effective amount of a neuroprotective agent to the subject.
