Abstract
An approach is provided for securing vehicles from relay attacks using map database. The approach, for example, involves determining a first location of a vehicle and a first location of a user associated with the vehicle. The approach further involves determining, using a map database, at least one signal dead zone within a first pre-determined distance from the first location of the vehicle. A distance between the first location of the user associated with the vehicle and the first location of the vehicle exceeds the first pre-determined distance. The approach further involves generating a validation output in response to the first location of the user associated with the vehicle exceeding the first pre-determined distance from the first location of the vehicle.
Claims20
A system comprising:
- a memory configured to store computer-executable instructions;
- and
- one or more processors configured to execute the computer-executable instructions to:
- receive a vehicle access signal comprising an electromagnetic signal via a personal area network adapter;
- determine a first location of a vehicle and a first location of a user associated with the vehicle;
- determine, using a location map database, at least one signal dead zone within a first pre-determined distance from the first location of the vehicle, wherein a distance between the first location of the user associated with the vehicle and the first location of the vehicle exceeds the first pre-determined distance;
- and
- generate a validation output that validates the vehicle access signal in response to the at least one signal dead zone and the distance between the first location of the user associated with the vehicle and the first location of the vehicle exceeding the first pre-determined distance
- wherein the validation output controls an access to the vehicle.
A method comprising:
- receiving a vehicle access signal comprising an electromagnetic signal via a personal area network adapter;
- determining a first location of a vehicle and a first location of a user associated with the vehicle;
- determining, using a location map database, at least one signal dead zone within a first pre-determined distance from the first location of the vehicle, wherein a distance between the first location of the user associated with the vehicle and the first location of the vehicle exceeds the first pre-determined distance;
- and
- generate a validation output that validates the vehicle access signal in response to the at least one signal dead zone and the distance between the first location of the user associated with the vehicle and the first location of the vehicle exceeding the first pre-determined distance
- wherein the validation output controls an access to the vehicle.
A computer programmable product comprising a non-transitory computer-readable medium having stored thereon computer-executable instructions, which when executed by one or more processors, cause the one or more processors to carry out operations comprising:
- receiving a vehicle access signal comprising an electromagnetic signal via a personal area network adapter;
- determining a first location of a vehicle and a first location of a user associated with the vehicle;
- determining, using a location map database, at least one signal dead zone within a first pre-determined distance from the first location of the vehicle, wherein a distance between the first location of the user associated with the vehicle and the first location of the vehicle exceeds the first pre-determined distance;
- and
- generate a validation output that validates the vehicle access signal in response to the at least one signal dead zone and the distance between the first location of the user associated with the vehicle and the first location of the vehicle exceeding the first pre-determined distance
- wherein the validation output controls an access to the vehicle.
