Abstract
A seal for a rotary shaft comprising having a stuffing box at least partially filled with a sealant material. At least one sealing ring bounds the stuffing box. Pressure applied to the sealant material in the stuffing box is transferred to at least one sealing ring in a radially inward direction.
Claims8
A seal for a rotary shaft comprising:
- (a) a sleeve configured to surround the rotary shaft;
- (b) a housing surrounding the sleeve;
- (c) a stuffing box between the housing and the sleeve, the stuffing box being configured to be at least partially filled with a sealant material;
- and
- (d) at least one sealing ring between the housing and the sleeve and bounding the stuffing box;
- wherein a pressure applied to the sealant material in the stuffing box is transferred to the at least one sealing ring in a radially inward direction.
