Abstract
The present disclosure is directed to a hydraulic fracturing system for fracturing a subterranean formation. In an embodiment, the system can include an electric pump fluidly connected to a well associated with the formation, and configured to pump fluid into a wellbore associated with the well at a high pressure so that the fluid passes from the wellbore into the formation and fractures the formation. The system can further include one or more ancillary units associated with the fluid pumped into the wellbore. The system can further include a first motor electrically coupled to the electric pump to operate the electric pump, and one or more second motors, each of the second motors electrically coupled to each of the ancillary units to operate the one or more ancillary units.
Claims18
A chemical additive system configured to provide chemical additives for hydraulic fracture treatments, the chemical additive system comprising:
- a chemical additive trailer;
- chemical pumps installed on the chemical additive trailer, the chemical pumps being configured to pump chemical additives from one or more chemical sources to a blender disposed on a blender trailer for addition to a fracturing slurry produced by the blender trailer, the blender comprising a mixing tub that receives the chemical additives from the chemical pumps and a proppant auger that transports a proppant into the mixing tub;
- electric motors installed on the chemical additive trailer and configured to drive the chemical pumps;
- and
- a variable frequency drive (VFD) housing installed on the chemical additive trailer, the VFD housing comprising variable frequency drives configured to control the electric motors.
A method for providing chemical additives for hydraulic fracture treatments, the method comprising:
- operating chemical pumps installed on a chemical additive trailer to pump chemical additives from one or more chemical sources to a blender disposed on a blender trailer for addition to a fracturing slurry produced by the blender trailer, the blender comprising a mixing tub that receives the chemical additives from the chemical pumps and a proppant auger that transports a proppant into the mixing tub;
- operating electric motors installed on the chemical additive trailer to drive the chemical pumps;
- and
- operating variable frequency drives installed on the chemical additive trailer to control the electric motors.
