Abstract
An extrusion color injection system that includes an extruder, at least one die, at least one color injector, a calibrator, and an extrusion gap. The at least one die is operable to shape material exiting from the extruder. The at least one color injector is operable to inject a colorant into the material exiting from the extruder in a pre-defined pattern. The is also calibrator downstream of the at least one die. The extrusion gap is defined between the at least one die and the calibrator. In this system, a bubble is formed in the material at the extrusion gap to impart a simulated appearance into the material with the colorant.
Claims21
An extrusion color injection system comprising:
- an extruder;
- at least one die operable to shape material exiting the extruder;
- at least two color injectors operable to inject a colorant into the material exiting the extruder in a pre-defined pattern, each color injector being fed a respective colorant via at least one of a pressurized hose, a hopper, or a gravity-fed color feeder, each color injector defining a corresponding nozzle extending into and operable with the material to inject a corresponding colorant thereinto, the at least two color injectors being configured to be capable of selectively continuously and simultaneously injecting the respective colorant associated therewith, each color injector being adjustably positionable to vary a depth at which the corresponding nozzle thereof injects the corresponding colorant thereof into the material;
- a calibrator downstream of the at least one die;
- and
- an extrusion gap defined between the at least one die and the calibrator downstream of the at least one color injector;
- wherein a bubble is formed in the material at the extrusion gap to impart a randomized, simulated pattern into the material with the colorant.
An extrusion color injection system comprising:
- an extruder defining an extruder exit;
- a feed throat operable to receive material from the extruder exit;
- at least one die operable to shape the material directed from the feed throat;
- at least two color injectors operable to inject a colorant into the material exiting the extruder in a pre-defined pattern and amount to impart a simulated appearance into the material, each color injector being fed a respective colorant via at least one of a pressurized hose, a hopper, or a gravity-fed color feeder, the at least two color injectors being configured to be capable of selectively continuously and simultaneously injecting the respective colorant associated therewith, each color injector defining an injector tip extending into and operable with the material to inject a corresponding colorant thereinto;
- at least one injector insert hole defined in the feed throat or an injection block and is operable to receive a corresponding color injector therethrough, each respective color injector being operably movable relative to the corresponding injector insert hole to adjust an injection depth into the material of the corresponding injector tip of the at least one color injector inside of the feed throat or the injection block;
- a calibrator downstream of the at least one die;
- and
- an extrusion gap defined between the at least one die and the calibrator downstream of the at least one color injector;
- wherein a bubble is formed in the material at the extrusion gap to impart a randomized, simulated pattern into the material with the colorant.
An extrusion color injection system comprising:
- an extruder;
- at least one die operable to shape material exiting the extruder;
- at least two color injectors operable to inject a colorant into the material exiting the extruder in a pre-defined pattern, each color injector defining a corresponding nozzle extending into and operable with the material to inject a corresponding colorant thereinto, each color injector being adjustably positionable to vary a depth at which the corresponding nozzle thereof injects the corresponding colorant thereof into the material, each color injector being fed a respective colorant via at least one of a pressurized hose, a hopper, or a gravity-fed color feeder, the at least two color injectors being configured to be capable of selectively continuously and simultaneously injecting the respective colorant associated therewith;
- a calibrator downstream of the at least one die;
- and
- an extrusion gap defined between the at least one die and the calibrator, the extrusion gap being with a range of one-half inch to one inch;
- wherein a bubble is formed in the material at the extrusion gap to impart a simulated appearance into the material with the colorant.
