A method for operating a painting robot system that monitors paint flow in environments with differing explosion safety classifications. The system includes a paint supply source, a sending-out device, and a painting robot arranged across first and second explosion-safe areas, with a paint channel extending through a non-explosion-safe zone. A noncontact flowmeter is positioned in the non-explosion-safe section of the channel to detect paint flow. A control device evaluates the flow rate and determines if it exceeds a first threshold or falls below a second threshold. If the flow rate exceeds the first threshold, a first abnormality is detected and a corresponding alarm is issued. If the flow rate is below the second threshold, a second abnormality is detected and a different alarm is issued. The method enhances safety and operational reliability by enabling early detection of abnormal flow conditions without requiring contact-based sensors in hazardous zones.
