Injectable botulinum toxin formulations and methods of use thereof having long duration of therapeutic or cosmetic effect

A method of treating glabellar lines in an individual, the method comprising:

• administering by injection a dose of an injectable composition into an area of the individual in need of treatment to treat the glabellar lines;
• wherein the injectable composition comprises a non-ionic surfactant and a pharmaceutically acceptable diluent suitable for injection;
• a botulinum toxin component that is a non-complex botulinum toxin of Type A and 150 kD;
• and
• a positively charged carrier component having the amino acid sequence of a formula RKKRRQRRRG-(K) 15-GRKKRRORRR (SEQ ID NO:
• 4);
• wherein the botulinum toxin component is administered to the individual in a treatment dose of 40 U by LD50 assay with saline as a diluent;
• wherein the positively charged carrier component is non-covalently associated with the botulinum toxin component;
• wherein the injectable composition is free of albumin;
• and
• wherein the treatment dose of the composition administered by injection to the individual has a duration of effect in reducing the appearance of glabellar lines lasting through 6 months.
