Abstract
Provided is a pharmaceutical composition for anti-obesity and preventing or treating muscle loss, which contains an extract of a plant in the genus Ulmus as an active ingredient.
Claims9
A pharmaceutical composition for preventing or treating muscle loss, comprising, as an active ingredient, a secondary extract of a supercritical extract residue of a plant in the genus Ulmus,
- wherein the secondary extract is obtained by:
- (a) subjecting a plant of the genus Ulmus to supercritical fluid extraction to obtain a supercritical extract residue;
- (b) extracting the supercritical extract residue with an alcohol solvent to obtain an alcohol extract;
- (c) filtering the alcohol extract and removing solvent therefrom to obtain a primary extract (UBRF-I);
- and
- (d) fractionating the primary extract with ethyl acetate to obtain the secondary extract (UBRF-II),
- wherein the secondary extract has a catechin 7-O-β-D-apiofuranoside content of at least 500 μg/mL, as determined by HPLC.
