Abstract
An ablation probe includes a shell configured to be positioned at a target tissue in a patient and a conduit positioned inside the shell. The conduit is configured to supply a cryo-fluid toward a tip of the probe. The probe also includes a heater positioned radially outward of an outer surface of the shell that is configured to heat the probe to perform thermal ablation.
Claims19
An ablation probe comprising:
- a shell comprising:
- a main body portion having a main body portion diameter along a length of the main body portion;
- and
- a tip portion disposed at a distal end of the shell, the tip portion having a varying tip diameter along an entire length of the tip portion and tapering to a point, wherein the shell is configured to be positioned at a target tissue in a patient;
- a conduit positioned inside the shell, the conduit configured to supply a cryo-fluid toward the tip portion of the shell;
- and
- a heater disposed around the main body portion of the shell and around the tip portion of the shell, the heater configured to heat the ablation probe to perform thermal ablation.

An ablation probe comprising:
- an inner conduit extending axially along an axis;
- an outer shell positioned radially outward of the inner conduit, the outer shell comprising:
- a main body portion extending along the axis and having a main body portion diameter along a length of the main body portion;
- and
- a tip portion disposed at a distal end of the outer shell, the tip portion having a varying tip diameter along an entire length of the tip portion and tapering to a point;
- a coil of resistive wire positioned externally to the outer shell around the main body portion of the outer shell, and around the tip portion of the outer shell, the coil configured to heat the ablation probe to a predetermined temperature sufficient to perform thermal ablation;
- and
- a layer of coating positioned around the coil of resistive wire separating the coil of resistive wire from an external surface of the ablation probe.
