Abstract
The present disclosure relates to a communication method and system for converging a 5th-Generation (5G) communication system for supporting higher data rates beyond a 4th-Generation (4G) system with a technology for Internet of Things (IoT). The present disclosure may be applied to intelligent services based on the 5G communication technology and the IoT-related technology, such as smart home, smart building, smart city, smart car, connected car, health care, digital education, smart retail, security and safety services. The present disclosure provides method and apparatus of performing random access procedure.
Claims12
A method performed by a terminal in a wireless communication system, the method comprising:
- obtaining a radio resource control (RRC) message including configuration information associated with a random access (RA), the configuration information associated with the RA includes either a contention-free random access (CFRA) resource or a contention-based random access (CBRA) resource;
- if a random access procedure is initiated, selecting an RA type for the random access procedure;
- and
- performing the random access procedure for the RA type,
- wherein, if the CFRA resource is configured, the RA type is selected from a 2-step RA type or a 4-step RA type,
- wherein, if a 2-step RA resource and a 4-step RA resource are configured, the RA type is selected based on a downlink reference signal received power (RSRP) and a threshold,
- wherein, if the random access procedure is initiated by a physical downlink control channel (PDCCH) order and a dedicated random access preamble index configured by the PDCCH is not 0b000000, the RA type is set to the 4-step RA type, and
- wherein, if the random access procedure is initiated by the PDCCH order, the dedicated random access preamble index configured by the PDCCH is 0b000000, and both the 2-step RA resource and the 4-step RA resource are configured, the RA type is selected based on the downlink RSRP and the threshold.
A method performed by a base station in a wireless communication system, the method comprising:
- transmitting, to a terminal, a radio resource control (RRC) message including configuration information associated with a random access (RA), the configuration information associated with the RA includes either a contention-free random access (CFRA) resource or a contention-based random access (CBRA) resource;
- and
- performing a random access procedure for an RA type,
- wherein, if the CFRA resource is configured, the RA type is selected from a 2-step RA type or a 4-step RA type,
- wherein the RA type is selected based on a downlink reference signal received power (RSRP) and a threshold, if both a 2-step RA resource and a 4-step RA resource are configured,
- wherein, if the random access procedure is initiated by a physical downlink control channel (PDCCH) order and a dedicated random access preamble index configured by the PDCCH is not 0b000000, the RA type is set to the 4-step RA type, and
- wherein, if the random access procedure is initiated by the PDCCH order, the dedicated random access preamble index configured by the PDCCH is 0b000000, and both the 2-step RA resource and the 4-step RA resource are configured, the RA type is selected based on the downlink RSRP and the threshold.
A terminal in a wireless communication system, the terminal comprising:
- a transceiver;
- and
- a controller configured to:
- obtain a radio resource control (RRC) message including configuration information associated with a random access (RA), the configuration information associated with the RA includes either a contention-free random access (CFRA) resource or a contention-based random access (CBRA) resource,
- if a random access procedure is initiated, select an RA type for the random access procedure, and perform the random access procedure for the RA type,
- wherein, if the CFRA resource is configured, the RA type is selected from a 2-step RA type or a 4-step RA type,
- wherein, if both a 2-step RA resource and a 4-step RA resource are configured, the RA type is selected based on a downlink reference signal received power (RSRP) and a threshold,
- wherein, if the random access procedure is initiated by a physical downlink control channel (PDCCH) order and a dedicated random access preamble index configured by the PDCCH is not 0b000000, the RA type is set to the 4-step RA type, and
- wherein, if the random access procedure is initiated by the PDCCH order, the dedicated random access preamble index configured by the PDCCH is 0b000000, and both the 2-step RA resource and the 4-step RA resource are configured, the RA type is selected based on the downlink RSRP and the threshold.
A base station in a wireless communication system, the base station comprising:
- a transceiver;
- and
- a controller configured to:
- transmit, to a terminal, a radio resource control (RRC) message including configuration information associated with a random access (RA), the configuration information associated with the RA includes either a contention-free random access (CFRA) resource or a contention-based random access (CBRA) resource;
- and
- perform a random access procedure for an RA type,
- wherein, if the CFRA resource is configured, the RA type is selected from a 2-step RA type or a 4-step RA type,
- wherein the RA type is selected based on a downlink reference signal received power (RSRP) and a threshold, if both a 2-step RA resource and a 4-step RA resource are configured,
