Abstract
Methods, systems, and apparatus, including computer programs encoded on computer-storage media, for operating sources of electricity in an electrical grid having a forecasting error rate are described. In some implementations, a method includes selecting a forecast horizon based on the forecasting error rate; performing an optimization process for dispatch planning of the electrical grid for the selected forecast horizon; automatically operating one or more power sources of the electrical grid in accordance with the dispatch planning for a first time increment; and performing an optimization process for dispatch planning for subsequent time increments within the selected horizon after the first time increment has elapsed.
Claims20
A method of operating an electrical grid, the method comprising:
- selecting a forecast horizon based on a forecasting error rate of the electric grid;
- performing an optimization process for dispatch planning of the electrical grid for the selected forecasting horizon;
- automatically operating one or more power sources of the electrical grid in accordance with the dispatch planning for a first time increment;
- and
- performing an optimization process for dispatch planning for subsequent time increments within the selected horizon after the first time increment has elapsed.
An electric grid operation system, comprising:
- one or more processors;
- and
- a computer-readable storage device coupled to the one or more processors and having instructions stored thereon which, when executed by the one or more processors, cause the one or more processors to perform operations comprising:
- selecting a forecast horizon based on a forecasting error rate of the electric grid;
- performing an optimization process for dispatch planning of the electrical grid for the selected forecasting horizon;
- automatically operating one or more power sources of the electrical grid in accordance with the dispatch planning for a first time increment;
- and
- performing an optimization process for dispatch planning for subsequent time increments within the selected horizon after the first time increment has elapsed.
Non-transitory computer-readable storage media coupled to one or more processors and having instructions stored thereon which, when executed by the one or more processors of an electric grid operation system, cause the one or more processors to perform operations comprising:
- selecting a forecast horizon based on a forecasting error rate of the electric grid;
- performing an optimization process for dispatch planning of the electrical grid for the selected forecasting horizon;
- automatically operating one or more power sources of the electrical grid in accordance with the dispatch planning for a first time increment;
- and
- performing an optimization process for dispatch planning for subsequent time increments within the selected horizon after the first time increment has elapsed.
